About this site

Aircraft Dimensions is an independent reference site run by Grace Turner. It draws the published dimensions of 364 aircraft types to scale and shows the airport design codes the FAA assigns to them.

Who runs it

The site is written, built and maintained by Grace Turner. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or paid by the Federal Aviation Administration, any aircraft manufacturer, airline or airport. There are no sponsored entries.

Where the numbers come from

Every dimension, weight and code comes from the FAA Aircraft Characteristics Database, October 2024 release, a U.S. Government work in the public domain. The Design Group and Approach Category limits come from FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300-13B, Tables 1-1 and 1-2. Ranks, ratios, margins and comparisons are computed by this site; How we measure explains each one and lists the 24 source records that were left out.

What the site does not do

It compares published numbers. It does not say whether an aircraft can use a particular hangar, gate, taxiway or runway, it adds no clearances, and it gives no operating or performance figures.

Drawings

The outlines are generic shapes drawn for this site and stretched to each type’s published wingspan, length and tail height. They are not traced from manufacturer drawings or photographs, and they carry no logos or liveries.
